«Fable запускает AI-сервис Showrunner для создания анимационных сцен»

Showrunner, AI-Powered Streaming Service, Launches in Alpha This Week

Fable, a startup specializing in tools for generating animated TV shows from scratch, is set to launch an innovative AI-powered streaming service called Showrunner this week, according to a report from Variety. This new platform promises to revolutionize the way users interact with animated content, offering subscribers the ability to generate scenes, view AI-created content, and even insert themselves into the animations they produce.

Showrunner is launching in its alpha phase, and as per Fable’s website, initial interaction with the service will primarily occur through the company’s Discord server. According to Variety, subscribers will pay between $10 and $20 per month for credits that can be exchanged for the ability to generate new animated scenes. The term «scenes» is crucial here; while Fable is debuting with a few distinct animated shows, these are more akin to collections of worlds and characters that subscribers can use to create their own unique scenes.

The initial lineup includes Exit Valley, a Family Guy-inspired take on Silicon Valley culture, and Everything is Fine, a comedy about a husband and wife stranded in an alternate world, trying to reunite. Fable’s founder, Edward Saatchi, envisions a future where subscribers could generate endless new scenes featuring beloved characters like Buzz and Woody from «Toy Story,» potentially creating a Disney-owned «Toy Story of AI.» For now, however, Showrunner users will have to settle for original content and knockoffs.

Engadget had the opportunity to preview an earlier version of Fable’s Showrunner AI models back in 2019, which successfully generated new South Park episodes based on audio inputs. The startup’s model demonstrated the ability to create a watchable replica of the show’s style even then, which may explain why Amazon has invested an undisclosed amount in Fable as part of the Showrunner launch.

Despite the skepticism and even antagonism towards AI from many creatives, companies are increasingly incorporating AI into their production processes. For instance, Netflix recently highlighted its use of generative AI in its original show The Eternaut. However, it remains unclear whether the average film or TV viewer has any desire to generate their own content, especially given the often rough quality of AI-generated media. Beyond serving as a public demonstration of Fable’s technology, Showrunner appears to be a test to gauge the existence of such demand.
